Floor Care

How regularly do you clean or maintain your floor? This will all depend on your location, lifestyle, and general wear from family and pets. All of these will increase the level of dirt and grit carried onto your floor.

Generally sweeping with an electrostatic mop and followed with a light wipe over with a slightly damp mop will be adequate – a capful of vinegar or a mild detergent (dishwashing liquid) on a damp cloth will move stubborn spills.

  • Be careful of vacuum cleaners as there heads (metal) can scratch the floor.
  • Don’t use steam mops, moisture can be forced between the boards and trapped causing problem in the future.
  • Use doormats where possible to trap dirt or grit!

Finishes

Solvent Polyurethane Polyurethane provides the hardest surface available and can be recoated after lightly sanding expect about 10 years before resanding is required (pending on usage).
Water Borne Not as hard as Solvent Polyurethane but the manufacturers of this product are working at rectifying this, less smell during application and slightly lighter colour to finished floor cover. Expect about 5 years before resanding is required (pending on usage).
Tung Oil or Oil Modified These products are absorbed into the timber more so than a coating on top and can be maintained by the customer with acrylic polishers for touch ups like scuffs. Expect about 3 years before resanding is required (pending on usage).

Species

All timber will have natural variation as it is a natural product, this is a guide only to a few species that we carry.
You will always find lighter and darker toning to the species you have chosen pending on where the timber has been grown and the size and age of the tree.
We can generally obtain what ever species you are chasing or certainly offer a close alternative.
